In a strategic effort to expand international economic cooperation and attract foreign direct investment, the Deputy for Economic and Investment Affairs of the Maku Free Zone Organization held a specialized meeting with a delegation of Chinese investors and business leaders to discuss avenues for joint collaboration.
According to the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of the Maku Free Zone Organization, the talks primarily focused on leveraging Chinese expertise to attract foreign investment to the Maku Free Zone. Given the delegation’s extensive trade networks and global market experience, this partnership is expected to mark a turning point in identifying and capitalizing on the region’s vast economic potential.
Focus on Mining and Supply Chain Strengthening
A key highlight of the session was the exploration of Maku’s rich mineral reserves. Both parties reached an agreement on the necessity of joint ventures in the extraction and processing of mineral resources. The initiative aims to prevent the export of raw materials and instead generate maximum value-added production within the region.
Furthermore, the expansion of trade activities, including the facilitation of imports and exports, was a central agenda item. Emphasizing Maku’s strategic position as a gateway to European markets and the Eurasian Economic Union, the participants stressed the importance of streamlining the flow of goods between Iran and China. The collaboration is designed to reduce trade costs and enhance logistics efficiency between the two nations.
Supporting Investors and Facilitating Business in Maku
Mehdi Dastgerdi, the Deputy for Economic and Investment Affairs of the Maku Free Zone Organization, welcomed the proposals, confirming that the organization is prepared to offer special support packages, expedite permit issuance, and provide industrial land to Chinese investors. He emphasized the organization’s commitment to creating a secure and attractive environment for economic activities.
The Chinese delegation, in turn, expressed keen interest in the unique geographical and economic advantages of the Maku Free Zone, acknowledging it as a strategic hub for regional commercial development. The meeting concluded with an agreement to form specialized working groups to follow up on the proposed projects and ensure the swift commencement of legal and operational processes.
These consultations represent a significant step toward diversifying Iran’s international economic partners and solidifying the Maku Free Zone’s status as a key center for cross-border trade.
