As part of efforts to advance the country’s strategic goals in transit and facilitate trade with Eurasia, the site selection for the Bazargan Border Logistics Center within the Maku Free Zone has been finalized following approval by the National Logistics Centers Headquarters. According to the Public Relations Office of the Maku Free Zone Organization, the proposed project for the construction of the Bazargan Border Logistics Center was reviewed during the 14th online meeting of the National Logistics Centers Headquarters, chaired by Farzaneh Sadegh, Minister of Roads and Urban Development and head of the headquarters, with the participation of the Deputy for Economic and Investment Affairs of the Maku Free Zone Organization. The proposal was approved by a majority of members.
Three hundred Hectares Allocated for Logistics Development at the Bazargan Border
Under the headquarters’ resolution and subject to compliance with the relevant laws and regulations, the allocation of 300 hectares of land proposed by the Maku Free Trade-Industrial Zone Organization, as the responsible authority, for the establishment of the Bazargan Border Logistics Center has been confirmed. The decision, seen as a key step in strengthening the country’s industrial infrastructure and supply chain, is expected to play an important role in enhancing Iran’s position along international cargo transit corridors.
Bazargan’s Strategic Role in Trade with Eurasia Highlighted
During the meeting, the unique capabilities of the Maku Free Zone and the development plans for the Bazargan Logistics Center, particularly in trade with Eurasia, were outlined. The Director of Urban Development, Infrastructure and Environment Affairs at the Supreme Council of Free Zones, while expressing appreciation for the coordination with the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, said the approval of this site selection would significantly expand the country’s logistics capacities and further pave the way for private-sector investment.
Maku Free Zone Assigned to Attract Private Investment
Under the meeting’s resolutions, the Maku Free Zone Organization has been instructed to actively identify and attract private-sector investment opportunities in the designated area and submit quarterly progress reports to the Secretariat of the National Logistics Centers Headquarters for monitoring. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister of Roads and Urban Development stressed the strategic importance of border logistics centers in facilitating commercial processes and called for faster issuance of the necessary permits for investors and the swift operational launch of these centers. The approval of the Bazargan Logistics Center, one of the most significant resolutions in the free zones sector, marks a turning point in the economic development of northwestern Iran and the improvement of transit services at the Bazargan border crossing.
