The Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones announced the clearance and import of over 622,000 tons of essential goods through the entry points of free zones in the past 45 days, designating these areas as the frontline of the government’s logistical support under the current circumstances.
Reza Masroor, detailing the performance of these zones during the period from February 28, 2025, to April 11, 2026, emphasized the importance of their role in strengthening national resilience.
Masroor, referencing the statistics of essential goods imports into the country’s free zones, specified: “During this critical timeframe, a total of 622,597 tons of essential goods, including wheat, rice, oil, legumes, animal feed (soybean meal, corn, and barley), sugar, tea, and red meat, have entered the nation’s food supply chain through the free zones.”
The Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones stated that free zones operate as the government’s operational arm in a “wartime economy.” He added: “Our goal is to maintain the stability of the supply chain and directly support people’s livelihoods, ensuring no shortages of strategic goods are felt during these sensitive times.”
