According to Maku Free Zone news site, following the First Turkish Assembly in Urmia in order to facilitate border exchanges of West Azerbaijan, this meeting was also held in Maku Free Zone with the presence of the directors of Trade Development Organization, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Industry, Mining and Trade Organization and Customs.
In this meeting, the CEO of the Maku Free Zone Organization, emphasizing the need to strengthen trade exchanges with Turkey, said: Our country’s geographic position in the world is a blessing that has created a unique opportunity for business.
Hosein Garousi introduced Maku as the connecting point of Iran to Europe and the world and added: Free zones on the borders were created with the aim of developing border trade and strengthening the national economy, but they have not fully achieved their goals.
Experts believe that Maku has a central role in the country’s logistics, CEO of Maku Free Zone Organization stated and added: If we are looking for the expansion of the tourism industry, the growth of production and exports, product processing and sustainable employment in Maku Free Zone, the main solution is creating logistics, export and tourism centers and hubs.
Garousi considered negotiation with the Turkish side with the purpose of joint production and trade and joint presence in the world markets highly important and added: Political diplomacy plays an important role in trade and all of the state institutions should pave the way for the private sectors for trade and investment.
The CEO of the Maku Free Zone Organization admitted: the revival of Sari Su Border Bazaar will not cause the stagnation of other border bazaars, but on the contrary, it will cause the growth of shopping tourists and the prosperity of the markets in the region.
Planning to change the destination of shopping tourism from Turkey to Iran has been started, Garousi stated and added: Many people refer to Van in Turkey for shopping; however by supplying products with high quality in Maku Free Zone, shopping tourism can be developed in this area.
