Strategic Development of Maku Free Zone with a Smart City Approach

During the signing of the memorandum of cooperation between Maku Free Zone Organization and China's Fujian Huari Information Technology Company in the field of data center investment and server production, Hosein Garousi elaborated the strategic development vision of Maku Free Zone with a smart city approach using modern technology

The CEO of Maku Free Zone Organization in a meeting attended by Fujian Information Technology Company executives said: As the largest free zone in the country, this zone has a different capacity for development, and that is the transfer of land for energy production and its export, mining production and setting up a data center in the area.

Hosein Garousi said that the low cost of cooling industrial activities in this region is the advantage of this region’s climate and added: We are directing Maku Free Zone brand towards technology, intelligence and energy export.

He stated that during his recent trip to China, we signed a memorandum of understanding with one of the companies regarding energy production and smart logistics, and added: Due to the export gas pipeline passing through this region, it is possible to simultaneously produce electricity and heat (CHP) in this area.

The CEO of Maku Free Zone Organization stated that we follow the approach of developing and completing the energy and technology value chain and added: Transferring mining support servers to this region along with assembling and producing new technologies such as laptops and creating a data center can be effective in completing this chain.

He called the production of cheap energy an advantage for investing in data centers and consolidating them in this region and stated: According to the agreement with Maku data center communication company, the data center is designed in four operational phases.

Garousi considered Maku to be a trade and transit gateway for access to equipment and stated that Mako has the possibility of facilitating the clearance of international customers’ equipment for installation and commissioning, and the proximity to international fibers has turned this area into a highway in the field of establishing data centers.
